01 Introduction
Blood sugar changes slowly, and the decisions that control it are made from patterns rather than from single results. Continuity matters more in diabetes than in most conditions. Endocare’s clinic in Dubai Healthcare City is a specialist endocrinology practice, and the endocrinologist who assesses you reads each new result alongside the ones before it.
02 The diabetes doctors you see at our Dubai clinic
Dr Hecham Harb, Medical Director and Consultant Endocrinologist, leads diabetes care at Endocare. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in Endocrinology and in Internal and Acute Medicine, and holds a specialty certificate in Endocrinology and Diabetes from the Royal Colleges of Physicians in the United Kingdom. He completed an honorary fellowship in obesity and weight control at Austin Health in Melbourne, took his medical degree at Damascus University, and has more than 20 years of international experience.
Our endocrinologists work alongside a clinical nutritionist and Endocare’s lifestyle coaches, all of whom see you in the same clinic rather than at a separate referral. You can read about our care team before you book.
03 What our Dubai diabetes clinic treats
Our endocrinologists treat four conditions at the Dubai clinic: type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, insulin resistance and hypoglycemia. Your endocrinologist investigates each on blood tests, then sets a plan and revises it with you as your results change.
The clinical detail sits elsewhere on this site. How each condition is diagnosed, what the thresholds mean and how each is treated are covered on our page on diabetes treatment in the UAE and on the page for each condition.
04 Your first diabetes appointment in Dubai Healthcare City
Endocare strongly prefers your first appointment to be in person. Your endocrinologist takes a history, examines you, and reads your blood tests with you.
Bring blood tests performed within the last three months if you have them. A blood test performed within the last three months is required before your endocrinologist prescribes medication, and Endocare can arrange a blood draw at your home if your results are not up to date.
Every consultation includes a body composition analysis. Visceral fat, the fat stored around the organs inside the abdomen, drives insulin resistance, and a weighing scale cannot measure it. The multi-frequency scan reports your body fat percentage, your visceral fat rating, your skeletal muscle mass and your body water. It is included free of charge with every consultation, for every patient, on every visit.
You also meet our clinical nutritionist and one of Endocare’s lifestyle coaches at this appointment, so the plan you leave with covers food, activity and sleep alongside any medication your endocrinologist prescribes.
05 Diabetes screening and insurance cover in Dubai
Health insurance is mandatory in Dubai, and the Dubai Health Authority sets what a mandatory plan has to include. Under the Dubai Health Authority’s Essential Benefit Plan, your insurer must cover diabetes screening every three years from the age of 30, and every year from the age of 18 if you are at higher risk.
Insurance cover for treatment is narrower. The same directive lets an insurer exclude a chronic or pre-existing condition for the first six months of your first UAE scheme, and it sets an annual limit on medicines with a share of each prescription payable by you. Read your own policy, because plans differ.
The International Diabetes Federation puts adult diabetes prevalence in the UAE at 20.7%, about 1,274,200 adults, in its 2024 estimate.

07 Medication delivered the same day in Dubai
When your endocrinologist prescribes medication, Endocare delivers it to you. Delivery is always free and carries no fee, and in Dubai it reaches you the same day. Endocare adds no markup to the official pharmacy price and does not earn on medication.
08 A diabetes specialist in Dubai, not a hospital department
Your endocrinologist manages diabetes on patterns, not on single readings. HbA1c moves slowly, which is why the United Kingdom’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends measuring HbA1c every three to six months until it is stable on unchanging treatment, and every six months once it is.
What changes between those tests is everything else: how you are tolerating any medication, what your body composition is doing, and what has shifted in your food, activity and sleep. The monthly review is where your endocrinologist reads those together and adjusts the plan, which is a different job from testing the marker.
An endocrinologist, a diabetologist, or a general practitioner specialized in metabolic health can each treat diabetes properly. What matters is that one doctor holds the whole picture and sees you often enough to act on what it shows.
The pill wins on no needles and no cold storage. The injection wins on flexibility, since timing is far less strict. Foundayo is another tablet option with its own profile. None of them is automatically best; they are simply different tools, and the right one depends on you.
09 FAQ
Which doctor treats diabetes at Endocare in Dubai?
Dr Hecham Harb, Medical Director and Consultant Endocrinologist, leads diabetes care at the Dubai clinic, supported by our endocrinologists, a clinical nutritionist and Endocare’s lifestyle coaches.
Do I need a referral to see a diabetes doctor in Dubai?
No. You can book directly with Endocare. If another doctor has already investigated you, bring those results to your first appointment so your endocrinologist can read them alongside anything new.
Can my follow-up appointments be online?
Yes. Endocare prefers your first appointment in person. After that, you can attend your reviews at the clinic or online.
How do I choose the best diabetes doctor in Dubai?
Look for a doctor with endocrinology training rather than a general prescriber, who sees you often enough to act on changes, and who reads your blood tests and your body composition together. Ask how frequently you will be reviewed, and whether you will see the same doctor each time.
Does health insurance in Dubai cover diabetes screening?
Yes. A mandatory health insurance plan in Dubai must cover diabetes screening every three years from the age of 30, and every year from the age of 18 for people at higher risk. Cover for treatment is narrower and differs by plan, so read your own policy.
